What Is Henna?
Henna is a natural, plant-based dye made from the powdered leaves of the lawsonia inermis (henna) plant. When prepared with water and time, its active pigment molecule – lawsone – binds with the keratin proteins in hair, creating rich, warm orange-red color that preserves your hair’s natural translucence without damaging its structure.

Frequently Asked Questions
Some common questions we answer
Is Henna safe for hair?
Yes. Our USDA Organic Henna contains no synthetic dyes, ammonia, or peroxide. Its plant molecules work with your hair’s natural structure, nourishing while coloring. Still, a patch test is recommended for sensitive skin.
Does Henna cover gray hair?
Yes — henna will turn gray hair bright red orange. If you want to to brown or black hues, apply natural indigo after henna in the traditional two-step plant dye process. Hennaran.com does not (yet) sell indigo.
How long does Henna last?
Henna is a permanent stain that grows out rather than washes out. Over time the color gently fades with time and sun exposure, similar to how a cloth’s dye softens with sunlight and washing.
What color will Henna give me?
Henna’s color reflects your base tone:
Dark brown / black → warm red undertones visible in sunlight
Henna cannot lighten hair.
True henna is reddish-orange by nature, and blends with your hair’s own pigments to create beautiful, organic hues.
Light hair (blonde/gray)→ bright copper or orange
Brown hair → auburn or red highlights
Dark hair → subtle warm sheen
Blonde / gray → copper to bright red
Light brown → auburn
Medium brown → reddish-brown highlights
